I get this question quite often. I’m going to share with you what I’ve learned through trial and error and by taking note of what kind of content I ENJOY engaging with on my LinkedIn feed.
The short answer: mix it up.
Let’s go deeper.
There are two important things to keep in mind:
1. There are many types of content that do well on LinkedIn.
2. Your followers will get bored of seeing the same kind of content every day.
My most viewed post is a long story. Thought provoking. Business related. But very close behind it is a post about how coffee+chocolate is my favorite food combination! What I’ve learned is that people are scrolling quickly. Sometimes a short post with a good sense of humor is just what they are looking for. But other times a long story about your business dealings is just what they needed to hear.
When sharing content on Linkedin, you want to show your followers that they can respect you for your knowledge and expertise in your industry. In addition, they will want to know what kind of person you are. Are you kind? Are you responsible? Are you qualified?
A sneak peak into your personal life is always something your followers will love as well. Are you a millennial? Do you have children? Did you go on vacation? Do you drink coffee?
These are all areas that your followers will enjoy hearing about on LinkedIn.
So like I said, mix it up.
Posts can be:
- Short and powerful.
- Long and thoughtful.
- Deep and meaningful
- Light and humorous.
- Industry tips.
- A client story.
- Asking for help.
- A personal anecdote.
- A quote of the day.
When all is written and posted, the goal is that all of your content fits into one of these three categories:
- Valuable – Share your industry experience.
- Informative – Tell us about you and your business.
- Entertaining – Sometimes all we need is a bit of fun!
Oh and make sure your post is always written clearly and in an easy-to-read format for maximum engagement!

Looking forward to hearing from you!
